Independent, evidence-based health research since 2004. Founded by a retired professor with a mission to challenge pharmaceutical industry influence on public health.
Healthfully was founded by a retired professor with a background in biochemistry, physiology, and the history of science. After decades of academic research, he turned his attention to the growing epidemic of conditions associated with the Western diet β obesity, type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer β and the pharmaceutical industry's role in obscuring their true causes.
The site began in 2004 as a personal project to share evidence-based health information with a passion for cutting through the noise of industry-funded research. Over twenty years, it has grown into a comprehensive library of over 300 articles covering dietary science, pharmaceutical critique, and the mechanisms of chronic disease.
The author's central thesis β that excess dietary fructose, mitochondrial dysfunction, and insulin resistance are the root causes of most conditions associated with the Western diet β is grounded in peer-reviewed research and supported by the work of scientists including Robert Lustig, Richard Johnson, Jason Fung, and Marcia Angell.
Every claim is grounded in peer-reviewed research. We cite primary sources and distinguish between strong and weak evidence.
No pharmaceutical funding, no advertising from food manufacturers. Our only interest is accurate health information.
We focus on the biological mechanisms behind disease β not just associations β to understand root causes rather than symptoms.
We examine the quality of research, funding sources, and potential conflicts of interest in all studies we reference.
The site's central argument is that the Western diet β high in refined fructose from sugar and high-fructose corn syrup β has broken the hormonal systems that regulate weight, metabolism, and cellular health. The three pillars of this thesis are:
The pharmaceutical industry has a financial interest in treating the symptoms of these conditions rather than addressing their root causes. This site exists to provide the evidence that the industry prefers to keep obscure.
The site covers nine major research areas: Diet & Diabetes, the Western Diet Pandemic, Bad Pharma, Heart & Cardiovascular Health, Cancer, Hormones, General Health, Low Sugar Populations, and Video Documentaries. Each section contains multiple articles grounded in peer-reviewed research, with a focus on the mechanisms behind disease and the evidence for effective treatments.
